Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has declared that artificial intelligence will be “the greatest force for economic empowerment” in the world and will “make many people rich.” Altman, the creator of ChatGPT – one of the world’s leading AIs – made the statement in a tweet.
In response to a user’s comment asking how AIs can boost economic growth, Altman stated that “one person with an AI like ChatGPT can do the same work as a team of five.” When asked about the future of AI, Altman admitted that it is not yet possible to understand exactly how AI will be applied, but that technologies will “evolve along with society.”
Altman’s optimism is not unfounded. In recent months, ChatGPT has gained relevance by accurately and eloquently creating anything from a college essay to a line of code.
The performance of ChatGPT caught the attention of Dr. Victor Tseng, owner of Ansible Health clinic in the US. Tseng is a co-author of a study that demonstrates ChatGPT’s ability to pass medical admission exams.
In an interview with CNN, Tseng explained that his colleagues began testing ChatGPT in 2022 and were intrigued when the program accurately diagnosed fictional patients in hypothetical scenarios. “We were so impressed with the eloquence and the kind of fluidity of its response that we decided to use it in our formal evaluation process and test it against medical knowledge reference,” he said.
The medical admission exam, considered one of the toughest in the US, is administered in three parts and tests knowledge derived from science, biology, case management, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking.
The result of ChatGPT’s test was impressive: the AI got almost all the answers right, “showing a high level of agreement and perception in its explanations,” according to Tseng’s study.
Tailor-Made Descriptions Another area using ChatGPT to optimize work is real estate brokerage. In an interview with CNN, real estate broker JJ Johannes admitted to using the technology to create descriptions of the houses he sells in less than five seconds – just by typing in keywords in the tool.
Johannes claims that before, it took more than an hour to write a good description. Other brokers told CNN that AI has changed the way they work, making activities from document writing to social media posts easier.
